Prologomena to the Project of an Editio Critica Maior of Hebrews

Programme

The Institut für Septuaginta und biblische Textforschung (ISBTF), affiliated to the Kirchliche Hochschule Wuppertal- Bethel, is currently working on the edition of John’s Revelation as part of the Edition Critica Maior of the New Testament edited by the INTF. Afterwards, the ISBTF, is planning to prepare the edition of the Epistle to the Hebrews. Within this new project, the expertise acquired in the course of Revelations’ ECM will certainly be beneficial.

The aim of this local session is both to present and discuss the first preliminary work on this follow-up project. Based on four main topics, the text-critical and text-historical peculiarities of the Letter to the Hebrews will be outlined. In addition to current trends in editorial science, the papers will take into account how the gathered experiences of ECMRev will be conducive to the project of ECMHebr.

Papers, which are intended to stimulate the discussion, will include general remarks regarding a project of an Editio Critica Maior of Hebrews, the Greek manuscript tradition (state of affairs and future research priorities), the value of Church Fathers' Quotes, and the versional testimony of the Epistle to the Hebrews exemplified by the Old Latin and the Early Coptic tradition.
